Social Connection and Exclusion
Social exclusion is a powerful experience that threatens basic psychological needs. Exclusion occurs not only at the interpersonal level but also at broader organizational and institutional levels, where people may experience alienation through policies or social structures. Even brief or subtle instances of ostracism—being ignored and excluded—can undermine well-being. I investigate how it is induced, how people react, and effective strategies that help them recover.
Close Relationships and Singlehood
Relationships require constant decision-making—from initiation to dissolution—and these decisions rarely occur in isolation. I investigate how individuals are influenced within and by their relationships with others. My work also explores whether and when some voices in one's network carry greater weight than others. I examine romantic, platonic, professional, and adversarial (enemy) relationships. My work also extends beyond romantic relationships to explore the experiences of single individuals.

Social Technologies and Media
Advancements in technology and media have shaped how we experience social connection—and how we experience social exclusion. I examine the interplay between technology, media, and social connection. Just as technology and media shape our social lives, social needs influence our use of technology. I have examined the roles of exclusion and anticipated engagement on willingness to share misinformation online. I have also explored how brief exposure to instrumental music may serve as an effective strategy for recovering from social exclusion.
